With PhatNoise.com taking a nose dive so many times over the year, I decided to take a backup of all of the public downloads made available on their site.

I e-mailed Harman informing them I would be offering the downloads through an alternative site and received no response [other than the usual automated replies].

With PhatNoise.com being down again if anyone needs to download Manuals, Drivers or Software that was previously available on the site then you can do so from my backup site here:

http://www.phatnoise.org

If you have trouble downloading through the website, check out the forums for alternative download methods.

I've mailed Harman to find out what's going on - but do not anticipate an answer any time soon.

You will not be able to access some of the intenet featureso of the PhatNoise Music Manager and the PhatNoise Media Manager, including registering the Media Manager from CD-ROMs that were included with Kenwood USB/ACDrive head units. The solution is to download version 3.92 from the PhatNoise site here: http://www.phatnoise.com/downloads/download_pmmsw.aspx

You should not need to fill in your e-mail address or pick OS or any of that. You should also not need to enter you e-mail address into the software to get it activated.

If you download and install the PhatNoise Music Manager, you will not be able to activate it at this time either. After you install it, you will be required to enter your e-mail address. You are then e-mailed a .exe file that will activate the PhatNoise Music Manager. Since the PhatNoise site is down at this time, this will not be possible.

When I was originally looking in the UK for the Kenwood Keg about 1 and a half years ago now, I was being quotes prices of between £799.99 to upwards of £1000 - worst part was that for the 710!

God knows what the 910 was going for, but no-one stocked it at the time.

Eventually I got mine from Ebay for a couple hundred notes from a mac user that couldn't get it to work - but had originally arranged for one to be shipped from Canada, until they found that some of the bits were missing!

Still, glad I got one in the end... shame Kenwood dropped it.

I have a Phatbox from my 325ci. I traded it in and took the phatbox out. I now have a 2007 335i with the premium Logic system. Will the phatbox hook to the CD changer and work as it did in my 325ci? I really love my Phatbox and would hate to have to sell it.

The radio is stock VW. It is a PhatBox. No Drives are showing up on my computer. I am using the driver supplied by PhatBox so I am thinking that is not the problem. Wrong power supply........hum......it is the one that came with the system.

This is a new system never been in stalled before.

What radio are you using? Is this a PhatBox or a MusicKeg?
When you open MyComputer when the DMS is in the cradle, do you see two new drives listed? They should be named PHTDTA and PHTSYS. If they do not have these names, this is the cause of the problem.

If they are not there, you either have not installed the USB cradle driver, or you could be using the wrong power supply for the cradle.

I put system in the car with the DMS in the head until. It loops around and around, green light flashing very fast for about 10-15 mins. Then slows for a about 7 flashes and shuts down, then comes back on and the whole flashing thing start all over again. Did this 3 or 4 time before I disconnected and put the DMS in the cradle, trying to look and see what the problem is. The software says no DMS connected. So that is where I am right now, waiting for help. NOTE: This is a new system, this is first time it has been out of the box.

There is a "button" to select either the ladies voice or the mans voice in the options menu. In the same place, you can change the volume of the voice. This was a problem I had. When looking for a song, the voices were low, so I'd crank the volume to hear "where I was" once the song came on, it blew the windows out. Adjusting the voice volume up, was the key.

When I first dreamed of getting a phatnoise/phatbox for my Jetta, the prices quoted were $799 US or about $1200 Cdn - Don't know the exchange in British lbs., but I waited about 2 years, hoping they would come down.... at the dealer they didn't.

I bought two now - neither for more than $150 Cdn funds off E-bay - one was brand new in box, the other had been gently used. I wanted the 2nd unit for the extra DMS cartridge only. The price I paid, $110 for the used one was for the complete kit, and was cheaper than buying only a new DMS cartridge....

I have three theroies.

When PhatNoise manufactured the MusicKegs for Kenwood, they made many cosmetic changes in the production line (in comparison to the PhatBox). The control port on the PhatBox may have had a use for some installations, vehicles, or accessories. However, on the MusicKeg was it was not used. It would cost to much to change the production for the MusicKeg to not include this port, so it was left on.

The other possibility is that Kenwood was going to make an accessory that connected to this port, or they wanted the option to have this port available in the event that they needed it, but they never did.

The last possibility is that it us used by technicians to diagnose problems.
